For good

For a long time, my 6 year old daughter would not eat eggs. I think it's in the genes because my husband and my oldest daughter will not eat them either. I mean....what's not to like about eggs? Enough said.
One afternoon I happened to be baking, and she noticed I put eggs in the mix.
"Ew!" she exclaimed.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Eggs! In the muffins!" she said.
"Yes...." I said.
"I hate eggs!" she most emphatically stated.
"Well, eggs are in most sweets." I told her.
For some reason, this little bit of information was not clear to her. Eggs in cookies? cakes? muffins? No way!
It was then I explained how all the ingredients of baked goods in and of themselves do not taste good, but mixed all together? Formed all kinds of sweet and yumminess.
Much like events in our lives. One seemingly bad thing after another bad thing, thrown in with another disappointment, more hardship and more plans gone awry in my mind do not make a yummy dish. But in His eyes, they do.

"We know that all things work together for good to them that love God."
The Christian does not merely hold this as a theory, but he knows it as a matter of fact. Everything has worked for good so far. The poisonous drugs mixed in proper proportions have worked the cure; the sharp cuts of the scalpel have cleansed out the ulcerous flesh and facilitated the healing. Every event thus far has worked out the most divinely blessed results.

Forgive me if my posts are all about babies, and postpartum, and adjusting. I do say this is where my thoughts get their voice. I warned ya. =)

Friday five. Skipped it. I know. So here's my list for this week: giving thanks for--
1. my husband will be home all week!
2. I am feeling physically better
3. a healthy, happy 3 week old--(on Monday)
4. VBS next week for my kiddos.
5. my husband. (have I said that? He is such a blessing in my life that words can never express. A consistent blessing.)

And--other "Good Reads" (all postpartum related.)

Friday five

I am going to begin something on this blog that I call "Friday Five". It is basically a variation of Ann's Endless Gifts list. Each Friday I am going to list five "gifts" in my life. In doing this, I hope to turn my focus to the joyous parts of my life instead of the challenges.
Why now?
The newborn stage is always challenging to me. Sleep deprivation, no routine, adjustments, uncertainty, no energy, recovering. All of these things make it hard to enjoy and see the blessings.
This is me! This is how God made me. I am a sensitive person who takes more time to adjust to new things, uncertain situations, etc. I always wondered why some new mothers seemed to adjust seamlessly to a new baby, while I struggled. I finally understood that this is just who God made me to be and that I should accept it and give thanks in the process.
So...the list. Blogging will be very sporadic I think in the next couple of months. I plan to post, but I have to say my brain is foggy and my time is limited. I do plan to do my "Friday Five". You're welcome to join me on your own blog, or at Ann's blog or just in the privacy of your own thoughts or personal journal. So...for today I am thanking God for:
1. a healthy son
2. a husband who willingly helps
3. my mother who is staying with me for 2 weeks as we transition
4. friends who want to help and who pray for me
5. summer. (I dread winter!!)

Not so fast!!

About a year ago, Ann Kroeker asked me to contribute to a book she was writing. It was about learning to slow down and how to live life more simply. She wanted to include some excerpts from my Sabbath posts that I had written here.

I was honored to be asked to be a part of something Ann wrote. After reading her blog and her first book, Contemplative Mom, I knew we had similar thought processes about living the slow life, allowing margin in our lives, and living life abundantly.

Check out Ann's book here
A website for the book, with many great links and articles can be found here.
Ann was featured as "Mama Monday" on my blog here.
An interview with Ann from January 2008 can be found here.
